Welcome to the St. Peter 175th Anniversary Website
I am so pleased to welcome all of you to our 175th Anniversary web site. Our anniversary committee chaired by Bill and Margaret Bommarito has been working for a year and one half preparing for this great year. Thanks to all who have put in so much time already to help us remember our rich past, our colorful history. We have a whole lot planned this year and the web site is the best way to keep abreast of everything that will be taking place. Your participation is what will make this year special. Each month we have planned at least one spiritual event and at least one social event and we have tried to plan activities that all will be able to share from age 2 to 102, whether you are a former parishioner or still count St. Peter as home. Some will be free and some will cost a few sheckles. We have tried to keep the costs to a minimum to assure the optimum participation.
St. Peter Parish has been a Catholic presence in this area for 17 decades...the fourth oldest parish in the City and the County of St. Louis and the twelfth oldest in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. We are very proud of this and very happy to share this anniversary with all. I am looking forward to seeing you throughout this great year of 2007.
Peace,
Father Jack

PARISH HISTORY BOOK
An updated history of our parish has been in the works for the past 2 years!!!! It will be available before the end of the year thanks to the efforts of MANY parishioners. Paul Gegg, Betty Beck, Dan Bauer, Mary Donis, Nancy Muller, Sarah Crean, Katie Crean, and Larry Pfile among others, have made very important contributions. We also owe a debt of gratitude to Ray Laramie, who acted as parish historian for years, providing records and photos. Most recently, editor Allan Crean has literally spent hundreds of hours preparing this for print. Our committee is VERY GRATEFUL for this gift of generosity and labor of love! THANK YOU! When available, each family will receive a copy as our gift to you. Additional copies may be purchased for only $5 each.

Being Good Stewards
To offset the costs of our 175th celebration expenses, we have planned two important fund raisers: the Progressive Dinner and the upcoming House Tour (April 15). For these and other events or items for sale that might make money, we are tithing 10% of the funds to a related charity. Our goal is to be good stewards of our income! We want to reach out, beyond ourselves, to the larger community of Christ with generosity.
Progressive Dinner - Kirkcare Food Pantry
Canvas Prints of St. Peter Church - St. Vincent de Paul Society
Ceramic Crosses - Hope Unlimited
St. Patrick's Day Gala - St. Patrick Center
Parish Play "You Can't Take It With You": St. Peter Cemetery
House Tour - Beyond Housing
Thank you in advance for your generous support! |

St. Peter Cemetery
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED ABOUT THE HISTORY OF ST. PETER CEMETERY?
-Original St. Peter churchyard in 1832 (80 acres)
-The oldest Catholic cemetery in St. Louis County
-First recorded burial: Unity Breen, who died January 3, 1835, age 28
-3,269 known interments including many 'founding families', priests, Ursuline Sisters, and loved ones of current parishioners
As a parish family we are deeply connected to this holy ground as well as to the 'communion of saints' buried there. With this in mind our committee has prepared a St. Peter Cemetery Burial Record Book for those researching family history or wanting to locate family buried there. It is available as a reference at the Rectory during office hours. Info is also available on-line at www.stlcathcem.org under "burial search".
As part of our 175th year, we are preparing to install a stone memorial to mark the cemetery as the site of our first church. Also, we will make improvements to the entrance, which includes adding an iron archway over the entrance (St. Peter Cemetery est. 1832) and planting a tree in honor of our 175th year. We are looking for donors to help make this possible. Donations will be accepted in the weekly collection (mark them "St. Peter Cemetery"). Thank you for your generosity!
Our most ambitious "wish" would be to install new, attractive fencing along the Geyer and Monroe borders. This would only be possible with large donations as well as someone with fence company connections to help with the purchase and installation. If you'd like to make this happen please let us know!

175th Logo
Our 175th Logo was created by parishioner Mike Myers. It beautifully represents our 175th Anniversary year! The dove is inspired by a stained glass window from the 1867 church, which is being restored and will be installed in our gathering space during 2007. The use of the dove is also to represent the Holy Spirit in our midst, that continues to keep St. Peter parish vibrant, as we "Celebrate the Spirit" during this historical year. A very special thank you to Mike Myers for creating our beautiful logo!

Parish Center Lobby Transformation Underway!
Great things are happening! Our PSR students and families are hard at work! In recognition of our 175th Anniversary Year, these volunteers are making wonderful improvements to our Parish Center Lobby! Students are working each week, creating a colorful mural for the walls of the lobby. Over spring break more extensive work will be done! All the light fixtures, ceiling tiles, and drinking fountain will be replaced! The walls will be painted, the doors restained, a new display case and bulletin board will be added along with a bench for seating and a large area rug with the STP logo! A very special thanks to Colleen Daras-Schmidt and all of our PSR students and families for making a wonderful difference, and to the Athletic Association for providing the necessary funds! Everyone will enjoy the new look!
